Q & A with Lacresha Hayes

If you are interested in booking an event, either online or in person, please contact us at [email protected]. Otherwise, feel free to use the following questions and answers on your website/blog. Notification is appreciated but not necessary.

1. Give us insight into your personality. Who is the real Lacresha Hayes?
I'm a woman who has seen some of the best and worst of life. I care about others deeply and so I'm moved to write, speak, establish and build. The spiritual side of me is compelled to make a difference for Christ. The entrepreneur is compelled to show others how to find financial freedom. The mother, friend and everyday me simply wants to see others happy.

2. What energizes you for the busy lifestyle you lead?
There is nothing like meeting people who, once they recognize you, have a testimony of how your book or some of your articles has impacted their lives. It's very fulfilling, however the energy to do this work comes from a personal relationship with God. I find strength in the quiet time I spend with the Holy Spirit. It is refreshing moments of wonderful insight.

3. How did you become an author?
I loved reading and writing as a child. I've always written poetry and short stories. Then one day, I sat at the computer and went into a writing trance, so to speak. I couldn't wake up from it. The end result was my first book, CHRISTIAN PRINCIPLES: MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY. Then, I went dormant for awhile. When I came back to it again, it was the hardest books I've ever written, THE RAPE OF INNOCENCE: TAKING CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE.

4. How do you find time to write all those books, run the businesses, do ministry and make time for family in the face of illness?
I try not to look at my illnesses as limitations, but accents to a journey that has both good and bad. I used to slave over the computer and in the office for long hours. Now, I prioritize and trust those who are there to help me. I let my day flow and refuse to stress over what there is no time to do. I've changed a lot in these last five years, primarily when it comes to overloading my plate. I'm much more relaxed these days.

5. Of all your books, which one would you say you are most satisfied with?
I'd have to say I'm most satisfied with Raw Redemption and when you see it, you'll know why. It may not be my most celebrated book, as The Rape of Innocence is making waves everywhere. However, you can see the difference in writing style and there is more experience and imagination in it. Also, it was fun to write as a creative work of fiction.

6. Which one are you least satisfied with?
I'd have to say THE RAPE OF INNOCENCE: TAKING CAPTIVITY CAPTIVE. The book is powerful and full of wisdom. It has a life-changing effect, but for some reason, I always read it thinking that I should have said this or shouldn't have said that. I'm not sure if it's the book, or if it is the part of my life included in the book. I have all sorts of fears about whether I gave too much detail in some areas or not enough in others. It's weird, but true. Also, my writing has improved tremendously since then and I find a lot of places that get tedious in the book, which is why a rewrite is due soon.

7. As a former victim of sexual assault, what do you think is the one area not covered enough by various media? How does your book(s) approach the subject?
I don't think most of us open up and tell our stories, how we survived and the long term consequences we still deal with. When I was going through it, I think I most needed someone to tell me that someone loved me and that I was not dirty or nasty. I think we need to focus more on actually connecting with how we felt and what we desired when we were going through our issues. I think my book is full of "feelings" so that victims can connect with me and trust me enough to take the advice given towards the end. That's what it is all about. They have to trust that what healed us can heal them. Therefore, the readers have to see our pains and believe that it was as great as their own. My book, I pray, does that well.
